Looking Back to Move Forward – Continuity and Change in Classical Dance
The festival hopes to facilitate the intersections between visual, performing and other art forms, both traditional and contemporary, and will include performances, seminars and an exhibition

A Dancer Looks Back: Sharon Lowen’s 45 Years in India, curated by Sanjit Debroy
An exhibition of photographs by Sharon Lowen, well-known Odissi dancer and guru

The exhibition presents a retrospective of never seen before photographs of classical and folk dancers taken between 1973-78 and 1981-90 in Delhi, Kolkata, Imphal, Seraikella, Baripada, creating a historical record of the cultural activity of the time. Before arriving in India as a Fulbright Scholar, Sharon prepared to document her sojourn by including studying photography at the University of Michigan as part of her M.A. Intended to be used in teaching, this documentation has never been shared before as her career as a performing artist took precedence over returning to academia
