Only 300 Monk Seals, it is estimated, are now left in the Mediterranean Sea. This gradual disappearance of the monk seal is not only an indicator of a species going extinct but also of the degradation of the Mediterranean Sea. Over-development, fishing, relentless dumping of industrial waste and sewage have turned the sea into a breeding ground for diseases. The prospect of cleaning up also looks grim
