“From the onset of civilization, prehistoric man has had some knowledge of geology. Humans became aware of the nature of copper, tin and iron ore and the methods to extract metals from these ores. Since then, earth science has been an integral part of human knowledge. However, for a long time the study of earth sciences has been a male prerogative. Fifty years ago, when I started my journey as a woman geologist, it was a difficult path. Looking back now, it has been a very interesting journey…” – Prof. Sudipta Sengupta
