Longing to Belong: Refugees in India
An Exhibition of photographs by Raghu Rai on the occasion of World Refugee Day 2014

United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) India is holding a photo exhibition of the photos taken by the famous photographer, Mr Raghu Rai on the occasion of World Refugee Day 2014. UNHCR India has collaborated with Mr Rai to take pictures of the refugees living in India. The pictures shot by him are of various refugee communities including refugees from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Tibet, Sri Lanka, and Somalia. The photos show the lives of the displaced as well as depict the humanity and resilience of people forced away from their homes.
UNHCR India works in collaboration with the Government of India in supporting refugees and asylum seekers who come to India to seek safety from persecution in their own countries.
 
The exhibition tells the story of the different refugee communities living in India - from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Tibet, Sri Lanka and Somalia. The photographs bear testimony to the resilience and courage of the displaced who come to India to seek safety from persecution in their own countries
