Dadi Pudumjee, puppeteer will present an illustrated lecture on The Man Behind the Mask

A magical journey into Dadi Pudumjee’s world of puppets. The session will explore his journey into puppetry, his Parsi roots, and his years in India and across the world

Dadi Pudumjee is an acclaimed puppet artist and director. He started puppetry as a hobby in Pune and later studied at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, where he developed his passion for puppetry under Meher Contractor at the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. In 1976 he received a scholarship to study in Stockholm under Michael Meschke. There, he had the opportunity to take part in a workshop on Bunraku puppetry by Japanese master puppeteer Sennosuke Yoshida. He founded India’s first contemporary puppet repertory company, Sutradhar Puppet Theatre, in 1980 and later established the renowned Ishara Puppet Theatre in 1986, of which he is the Managing Trustee and Artistic Director. He was the president of Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA), and now is UNIMA president of honour. He was awarded the Padma Shri and the National Award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi. He has conducted several workshops on puppetry worldwide.
