Protecting the Senhors and Gora Sahibs in North Konkan – Re-Visualizing Defense and Settlement Pattern of the Province of North and Bombay, 1534-1818 AD

The talk will discuss defence and settlement pattern of the early phase (1498 - 1818) of the European occupation in North Konkan by focusing on the holistic synthesis of material remains and textual sources.  It is an attempt to initiate studies in the domain of Archaeology of European Expansion/Colonial Archaeology in India. The presentation will also discuss field findings of the author in the light of textual sources for reconstructing the defence and settlement pattern of the region as it existed during the late Medieval period
