Jashn e Rampur marks the culmination of the project ‘Forgotten Food: Culinary Memory, Local Heritage and Lost Agricultural Varieties in India’ (2019-2022) funded by Global Challenges Research Fund through the Arts and Humanities Research Council in UK and executed under the aegis of University of Sheffield. The day long festival focuses on the culinary heritage of Rampur with talks, discussions, film screening and performance

Marty Alter Chen will speak about being a witness to the Partition and Independence of India in 1947 and the Partition of Pakistan and Independence of Bangladesh in 1971. Marty grew up in India as a third-generation member of an American family who think of India as home. In August 1947, Marty was with her parents and grandparents in Mussoorie. Fast forward to March 1971.  Marty, her husband and their son Gregory were living in Dacca, East Pakistan and witnessed the Pakistan military crack-down on East Pakistan, before being evacuated. Marty will share her memories of the two Partitions and of living and working in both India and Bangladesh.

Qutb Shahi Heritage Park, Golconda: Conservation & Landscape Restoration

Illustrated lecture by Ratish Nanda, Conservation Architect, India CEO, Aga Khan Trust for Culture who leads inter-disciplinary teams undertaking urban conservation projects in Delhi and Hyderabad

The presentation will focus on the decade long conservation effort being undertaken by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) at the 106 acre Qutb Shahi Heritage Park – where in the 16th /17th centuries over 100 monuments were built – mausolea, baolis, funerary mosques, amongst others. Conservation effort has revealed several of the principal structures were set in enclosed garden. With learnings from the Humayun’s Tomb conservation, AKTC has followed a craft based approach to conserve the necropolis
