Shri Shyam Saran, is a career diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1970. He has served as India's Ambassador to Myanmar, Indonesia and Nepal and as its High Commissioner to Mauritius. In his final tenure, he was Foreign Secretary to the Government of India from July 2004–September 2006. Upon completing his tenure, he was appointed the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Indo-US Civil Nuclear Issues and later as Special Envoy and Chief Negotiator on Climate Change.
