Kathak is the only form of dance which is immediately associated with nritta. Music in Kathak has rarely been a subject of serious discourse. The noted Kathak exponent, Smt Prerana Shrimali in her presentation will elucidate according to her understanding, application, and experience of music in/of kathak.

Harappans in the Ganga Valley: New Discoveries

The Harappan presence in the east of Yamuna has been attested at Alamgirpur (Baghpat) and at Hulas (Saharanpur), however, with an admixture of local or regional cultural elements, it represents a diluted form of the Harappans or its rural manifestation with no urban signatures. Recent, discovery of a large collection of copper objects from Harinagar (Bijnor) and a small scale excavation at Sakatpur (Saharanpur) yielding the copper hoard implements with Harappan artefacts has brought us to a point where a rethink of the Harappan presence in Yamuna-Ganga doab and beyond becomes imperative. The present talk will focus on the Harappan evidences found in this region and will discuss their significance and relevance

India and Russia have a special relationship which is rooted in history, trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. War, India-Russia relations has been a key pillar of India’s foreign policy. Since the signing of “Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership” in October 2000, India-Russia ties have acquired a qualitatively new character with enhanced levels of cooperation in almost most areas of the bilateral relationship including politics, security, economics, defence, energy, science and technology. Over the years, the strategic partnership between India and Russia has withstood the test of time, and both the countries enjoy a growing convergence in their political, economic and strategic interests.

 

The diplomatic relations between India and Russia completed 70 years in 2017. Last year, the bilateral trade between Moscow and New Delhi experienced an impressive 22% growth, although it is much below the potential.  India and Russia also boosted cooperation in a number of spheres ranging from agriculture to energy to pharmaceuticals. The two countries also seek stronger ties in the military sector. India participated as Guest Country in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum-2017. The session will provide an insight to the current trends of bilateral ties between India and Russia and a glimpse at how relations can be improved in the future.

 WE CARE FESTIVAL OF FILMS ON DISABILITY ISSUES: 16 & 17 APRIL 2018

Screening of 27 award-winning short films and documentaries from 11 countries on issues of disability. Organised in collaboration with Brotherhood; UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan; UNESCO; and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi 

 

Screenings on both 16 and 17 April 2018 will be held from 09:30 to 16:30 hours. The festival includes discussions and question/answer sessions with some of the filmmakers present.

The film tells the true story of a Holocaust survivor, Stella Zylbersztajn-Tzur (born 1925 at ?ód?, Poland) who was hidden during the course of the Second World War by the residents of ?osice, a town in eastern Poland. After the war, 23 of the 65 people responsible for hiding her from the Nazis were awarded the “Righteous Among the Nations” medal by Yad Vashem
