Chair: Dr. Ashwani Kumar
Various eye-problems affect people, including cataract, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age-related mascular degeneration and corneal opacities. They impair the visual acuity as well as adversely affect the quality of life in advanced stages. Knowledge regarding these disorders may help in primary prevention of diseases, help to halt the progression of some diseases and allow a timely intervention and restoration of vision of curable disorders. It is essential to educate the general public regarding the warning signs and symptoms of these common eye diseases, so they may know when to contact an ophthalmologist. In addition, the talk will shed light on various misconceptions surrounding the treatment modalities; and on eye donation.
First in a new series of monthly Public Health talks based on early signs, prevention and management of diseases with common medical perspective by eminent medical consultants. Conceptualised by Dr. Ashwani Kumar.
