Chariots of Sanauli – Shedding Light on the Chariot and Cart Controversy
Illustrated lecture by Dr. Sanjay K. Manjul, Joint Director General (Archaeology), Archaeological Survey of India and Director, Institute of Archaeology

Chair: Shri B.M. Pande

The Archaeological Survey of India’s ongoing excavations of the 4,000- year-old burial sites at Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh has unearthed underground “sacred chambers”, decorated “legged coffins” as well as rice and dal in pots and animal bones buried with the bodies. The excavations have also unearthed three chariots, some coffins, shields, swords and helmets which Dr. Manjul says points towards the existence of a “warrior class in the area around 2,000 BCE”.
