The Ganesh Chaturthi Festival is a spectacular nation-wide celebration with music, dance and special foods dedicated to Lord Ganesha, one of the Hindu pantheon’s most-beloved deities. This year, celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi from 10th to 19th September with IIC’s presentation of iconic and ever-popular Maharashtrian street food. Inspired by the khau gallis (‘treat’ food streets) of Mumbai, India’s cuisine capital, IIC brings you a mouth-watering variety of gastronomical delights to tempt the palate and satisfy a craving. Choose from a wide range of your favourite dishes on offer for a quick meal on the go, or sit down to the spread of tastes and flavours for a more satisfying experience. IIC will be serving the special menu from 10th to 16th September 2021. These items shall be served in addition to the regular take away/dine in menu.

Dear Member, Over the years, IIC has brought to its Members a range of Royal Cuisines from the kitchens of the Bhonsles (Nagpur), the Gaekwads (Baroda), the Holkars (Indore) and the Scindias (Gwalior). From Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation in 1674 until 1818, the powerful Maratha Confederacy dominated a large part of the Indian subcontinent. The Peshwas, the prime ministers of the Confederacy, were its de facto rulers and, under Peshwa influence, Maharashtrian food developed into an elegant, delicious, wholesome and extremely healthy cuisine. This year, as part of the Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, IIC serves the Royal Cuisine from the Kitchens of the Peshwas of Pune. Specially curated by Smt. Hema Devare and Shri Suhas Borker, members of the Maharashtra Sanskritik ani Rannaniti Adhyayan Samiti, this sumptuous meal has been prepared by the former Executive Chef to the President of India, Machindra Kasture, and IIC Executive Chef Vijay Thukral. To maintain social distancing protocols, a special lunch will be served as Pre-plated Thali, with one serving of dessert, during lunch hours (1230 hrs to 1445 hrs), on Friday, 10th September 2021. Interested Members are requested to make an advance booking with the Dining Hall (011-24609374, 24609472 or WhatsApp at 9910333937). Members can also email their booking requests to ama@iicdelhi.in. Please note that reservations will be made on a first-come-first-served basis. Restrictions on the number of guests accompanying a Member have been eased. Special arrangements will be made to accommodate large groups. All necessary arrangements for social distancing and sanitisation will be strictly adhered to. Please note that the cancellation of bookings after 1700 hrs on 9th September 2021 will not be entertained. Thanking you, |

The Cow (Gaav/Iran) | ( Click here to watch )
(100 min; 1969; b/w; Persian with English subtitles)
Director: Dariush Mehrjui
Recipient of the Fipresci Prize, Venice Film Festival 1971; and OCIC Award, Forum of New Film, Berlin International Film Festival 1072
Iran, the 1960s. Masht Hassan owns the only cow in his village, which affords him importance and prestige. Married but without children, Hassan treats the cow as if it were his child, constantly tending to it and even sleeping in the same barn some nights. This tight-knit village is concerned about the inhabitants of a neighbouring village, the Boulouris, who they suspect of wanting to do harm to the cow and the village itself. One morning, Hassan leaves the village on business. His wife then finds the cow dead in the barn. The villagers are grief stricken and suspect the Boulouris of foul play. Knowing that Hassan will be devastated, they concoct a lie…
Considered a landmark in Iranian cinema and only the second film by the then 28 year old director, The Cow is a remarkably mature piece of work, heavily influenced by the Italian neo-realists.
