Land Pooling Policy
Rapid urbanization is asserting pressure on the peripheries of our metropolitan cities fueling the need of serviced land to provide for the forthcoming infrastructure, housing and building needs. In Delhi the most daunting impediment is the availability of serviced land. Delhi has not been able to formally access any additional land supply, real estate markets are inefficient while there is unprecedented growth of informal settlements. In 2014, The Delhi Land Pooling Policy was adopted as an alternative to land acquisition, in anticipation to release the land locked and address the challenges of land markets in Delhi through private sector participation.

However, though it has merit, the Delhi Land Pooling Policy has not picked up pace. The multi-disciplinary discussion will deliberate on this and involve the public in a participatory forum

Presentations will be made by four speakers

Chair: Prof. Anupam Saxena, Officiating Associate Dean and Director, School of Real Estate

The session will explore how advances in technology are impacting on social interactions and human behaviour particularly in a country with strong traditions and deeply ingrained patterns of thinking. Digital technologies carry the promise of democratizing societies, empowering marginalized sections of society and opening up new opportunities for women. These trends are already apparent in India. However, there are also certain negative aspects to the use of these technologies which may strain the social fabric and even undermine the institutions and processes of a democratic state. The session will aim to address some these very topical issues and promote a well-informed public discourse with particular reference to India

This book analyses how multiple and hybrid ‘modernities’ have been shaped in colonial and postcolonial India from the lens of sociology and anthropology, literature, media and cultural studies, law and political economy. It discusses the ideas that shaped these modernities as well as the lived experience and practice of these modernities. The two broad foci in this book are: (a) The dynamism of modern institutions in India, delineating the specific ways in which ideas of modernity have come to define these institutions and how institutional innovations have shaped modernities; and (b) perspectives on every day practices of modernities and the cultural constituents of being modern
