The crisis in Sri Lanka that began with peaceful demonstrations demanding the resignation of the Rajapaksa government, following the widespread shortages of food, fuel, medicine, and other daily necessities, has turned violent. Prime Minister Mahindra Rajapaksa has resigned and fled to an unknown destination for safety. His brother the President has refused to resign. What are the prospects of an early end to the crisis?

India has already provided assistance worth $3.5 billion this year only.  Can India do anything to assist its neighbour to put down the raging fire?

Professor V. Suryanarayan, a well-known scholar studying Sri Lanka and Indo-Sri Lanka relations for decades, will explain to us the origins of the crisis and much more.
